Mr. Szura is a former Chair of the Health Care Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He is an experienced Michigan health care attorney who represents individual, small and medium-sized health care providers with their legal needs. That experience provides his clients with efficient, effective and informed representation with a myriad of health care regulations and issues.

Over the years, Mr. Szura has help health care providers set up their businesses. He has helped them transition to telemedicine or telehealth services. Mr. Szura has extensive experience with complex health care regulations, including the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA. As a counselor, he helps clients understand and comply with those regulations. Likewise, he zealously advocates for his clients in federal and state courts concerning such regulations. In that capacity, he also represents providers in administrative matters, such as professional licensing disputes and administrative hearings. Finally, his extensive experience as a health care lawyer includes representing whistleblowers in exposing fraudulent health care schemes, under the federal False Claims Act, the Michigan Medicaid False Claims Act and other similar statutes.

Health Law Counseling

Mr. Szura has helped individuals and provider groups set up their business and grow. He provides important legal insight and compliance for their businesses. As a health care lawyer, he has represented physicians, registered nurses, dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, home health agencies, physician groups and pharmacists in a wide range of matters. As the client’s business attorney, these matters include telemedicine and telehealth, practice formation, contract negotiations, ongoing business operations, employment issues, management contracts, non-compete agreements, insurance and network provider disputes, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) concerns, and compliance and license issues.

Business Law and Commercial Litigation

In addition to his experience as a health care lawyer, Louis has represented numerous small, medium and publicly-traded companies in the courtroom. As a business lawyer, he has litigated some of the most important issues faced by business owners, including contract rights, fiduciary rights, shareholder rights, intellectual property claims, unfair competition and others.

Whistleblower False Claims Act / Qui Tam Cases

Throughout his career, Louis has successfully represented clients exposing Medicare and Medicaid fraud by others. Those whistleblower cases are brought typically under the federal False Claims Act, the Michigan Medicaid False Claims Act and similar statutes. Those laws provide an effective way for private citizens to stop fraud and abuse on the public.
